Stan Metcalfe

Metcalfe is Emeritus Professor at the University of Manchester, where he was founding Director of the ESRC Centre for Research on Innovation and Competition (CRIC) and Stanley Jevons Professor of Political Economy and Cobden Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences. He has extensive experience of working in Whitehall. He was a member of the Advisory Council on Applied Research Development (ACARD) from 1984 to 1987 and of the Advisory Council for Science and Technology (ACOST) from 1987 to 1993. He was a member of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission from October 1991 to October 1997. A past President of the International Schumpeter Society, he is now the 2008 President of the British Association for
the Advancement of Science (Section F) and Fellow of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences. He has published over 150 papers and books. For the past 15 years his work has been concerned mostly with the evolutionary economics of technological change, innovation systems and processes and science policy.
